Welcome to Emilia’s

I’m Andrew, the founder of Emilia’s. I’ve loved eating pasta since I was a young boy, born of the millennial generation for whom pasta was an everyday item. From these humble beginnings started an obsession with this fascinating Italian staple.

I’m Andrew, the founder of Emilia’s. I’ve loved eating pasta since I was a young boy, born of the millennial generation for whom pasta was an everyday item. From these humble beginnings started an obsession with this fascinating Italian staple.

Learning about pasta

Whilst studying maths at university I started travelling around Italy and learning more about the craft behind pasta – you don’t see potatoes, rice or bread in the multitude of fun shapes you’d find pasta. I came to really appreciate the craft behind creating this delicious and aesthetically pleasing food. No two pasta makers create the exact same pasta hence why it is considered a craft. I also became fascinated by the science behind the pairing of sauces with their shapes and the geometry behind the shapes.

Learning about pasta

Building Emilia’s

Being the birthplace of fresh pasta, it was only natural that I focused my travels on the Emilia Romagna region, where I found the best restaurants to be local trattorias serving modest, yet delicious meals. Here I met some talented chefs and pastaio with a real passion for cooking recipes passed down the generations. I learned about flavour, tradition, small details, techniques and came to appreciate the craft behind making pasta.

The First Emilia’s

With a huge amount of help from a few like-minded pasta-loving twentysomethings, Emilia’s opened in November 2016 in St Katharine Docks in East London. We do our best to bring a bit of that trattoria atmosphere to Emilia’s. We’re committed to fresh, simple, ingredients, sourcing them responsibly, and taking care of the environment (doing our best to get rid of plastic).

The First Emilia’s

With a huge amount of help from a few like-minded pasta-loving twentysomethings, Emilia’s opened in November 2016 in St Katharine Docks in East London. We do our best to bring a bit of that trattoria atmosphere to Emilia’s. We’re committed to fresh, simple, ingredients, sourcing them responsibly, and taking care of the environment (doing our best to get rid of plastic).

We love puppies almost as much as pasta, so feel free to bring your best friend along to the outdoor seating areas
